Aurora
I’m sure some of you saw the aurora borealis last night. If not, it’s going to be visible again tonight in Massachusetts, and other northern states. Last night, my good friend texted me saying “you can see the northern lights right now.”
I responded “where?”
… no response.
No need to ask as I walked outside.
Red rivers flowed in the northern sky. Captivatingly beautiful.
In the Vedic tradition, the north represents the wisdom of the masters that are no longer in body and non-local wisdom (wisdom that we can catch from a source that’s not apparent to our senses in our immediate environment). Wisdom, knowledge, a subtle source.
Scientifically, the aurora borealis is a phenomenon that happens when solar wind carries charged particles from the sun to the earths upper atmosphere. The magnetic field of earth consolidates this interaction between earths atmospheric atoms and molecules with the charged particles of the solar wind at the poles of planet earth. Aurora borealis in the north and aurora australis in the south or the northern lights and southern lights.
It’s a consolidation of light energy along the poles of the axis of the earth.
Yoga and other spiritual traditions speak about auras, light, and magnetic fields. In all spiritual traditions holy figures have a “glow” or a halo or something like that. But where they got it wrong is it’s not just for the holy people. We all are infused and composed of luminosity, especially along our central channel.
As we harness our breath, focus our attention, move our spine, and refine our intentions our field strengthens and expands. Not unlike the earth, we can magnetize energy. As we develop our Shakti (energy) we can draw to us what’s most relevant: luminosity, wisdom, innocence, and presence.
My teacher has continued to say over the years, “our life is exactly how we are.” Meaning, we are the common denominator in the circumstance and experience of our lives. No one or thing to blame… radical responsibility and freedom to live and choose how we want to be. Doesn’t matter your age or situation.
Just for today, realize connection and love. Settle into this, say a prayer to share, and stay connected.
With love and light,
Andrew
